For the 2nd time the COST Conference on Mathematics for Industry in Switzerland is hosted by the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Physics and the Institute of Data Analysis and Process Design at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW in Winterthur. The goal is to bring European academics, young researchers, students and industrial practitioners together. Dr. Martin Fengler, CEO of Meteomatics, is one of the invited experts and talks about the different modeling approaches which involve machine learning methods. For an efficient handling of the proposed modeling a huge amount of weather data is required which can be accessed through in-memory techniques. Finally, it tries to put some spotlight on the underlying problem of numerical weather prediction and how these challenges could be tackled in the near future.
