As in 2016, a lecture by Meteomatics Managing Director Dr. Martin Fengler is part of the master course "Lab and Fieldwork" at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science ETH Zurich. Within the lecture students are introduced into the functionality of MOS (Model Output Statistics) systems, the advantages and disadvantages, common pitfalls, and the use in daily weather forecasts. However, as the resolution of deterministic models is continously increased, Dr. Fengler emphasizes the future importance of statistical processing of Ensemble forecasts. Further, he gives insights into the world of the Meteodrones, drones developed by Meteomatics for meterological measurements of the Planetary Boundary Layer.
