The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is a 24/7 operational meteorological service, producing and disseminating numerical weather predictions to its Member States. Besides being a research institute ECMWF is always on the lookout of for innovative ideas for weather applications, forecast products or diagnostics tools. It is in this innovation context, that ECMWF invited Meteomatics to present a 'Weather API’ workshop during their "Using ECMWF's Forecasts (UEF 2018)” conference running from 5th to 8th June at their headquarters in Reading, UK.
Meteomatics' experience in processing about 1.5 TB of data daily, which includes ECMWF data, and providing clients access to 200 TB of data via their Weather API led to their selection as a speaker. During a one-hour workshop, Dr. Martin Fengler, CEO of Meteomatics, explained how the API provides easy access to high-quality weather data. As UEF 2018 is not only about processing ECMWF data but also about innovative solutions, Meteomatics was also invited to present its specially developed Meteodrones. At a second lecture, Dr. Ing. Martin Fengler explained how drone data can improve numerical weather models.
