Today’s published issue of the EnergieRundschau, is featuring an article about the importance of modern meteorology for the renewable energies sector. Composed by Dr. Nils Dorband, who is responsible for research and development at Meteomatics, the article focuses on the challenges in forecasting fog, low stratus and thunderstorms. Both influence the generation of renewable energies significantly.

On this article Dr. Dorband sketches the challenges, but also points out the opportunities for weather service companies to come up with innovative solutions. Such as Meteomatics is already working on an improved weather model which is capable to predict fog, low stratus and thunderstorms more precisely. For this purpose precise measurements are taken with in-house developed drones – the Meteodrones – to close the existing data gap in the boundary layer.
