The fast acquisition and computation of data is playing an increasingly important role across many industries. Meteorological services record current weather conditions and compile weather information to deliver alerts and warnings. In order to facilitate the exchange of experiences and ideas, the VAKW, the Association of the Coordinated Weather Service members, was founded as a platform for the staff of these meteorological services. It offers a platform for training and knowledge exchange. Meteomatics, as a provider of meteorological software solutions, is already playing a pioneering role within the industry. By means of its in-house developed and patented Meteodrone, a flying weather data gathering platform, precise environmental data can be recorded at all levels of the atmosphere within the planetary boundary layer up to 2km above ground level. Dr. Martin Fengler, CEO of Meteomatics, presented to the members of VAKW how drone data will revolutionise the world of weather forecasting.
