The American Solar Challenge 2018 is a solar car endurance challenge that took place from July 14 – 22, and has been bringing world leading solar-powered vehicle teams to compete across the USA since 1990. In order to reach the finish line in the shortest possible time, it is essential for the competing teams to accurately calculate the power consumption of their solar powered cars across the whole race, and to plan the best possible route. These calculations need accurate weather data, such as the wind speed and direction. This year’s challenge ran across 5 stages, and had team École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) from Quebec once again supported by Meteomatics.Using our Weather API and precision weather data allowed the ETS team to shine with their car finishing just a few minutes behind the leaders from Western Sydney University, and the runners-up from the University of Michigan. Congratulations to the ETS team on a great result from all of all of us at here at team Meteomatics!
