Meteomatics was the first Swiss company to receive the B-VLOS permission to fly the Meteodrones beyond visual line of sight. The goal of the Meteodrone project is to improve the high-resolution weather forecasting models. The UVAs measure meteorological parameters within the Planetary Boundary Layer and close the existing data gap. Many test flights verified significant improvements of the forecasts, especially for fog and thunderstorm events. For this reason Meteomatics started to build a network of drone flight operations last year. In November the first drone pilot took up his activities and several pilots followed. The Klettgauer Bote accompanied the Meteomatics drone pilot Marcel Amsler for one night, to get an impression of the activity as a drone operator.
