Arjen Piest
Global Aviation Lead
Who Is Arjen Piest?
Arjen Piest is Global Aviation Lead at Meteomatics, based in Oslo, where he leads the company’s growth in the global aviation sector. He brings a rare combination of hands-on operational expertise, product strategy, and commercial acumen — grounded in nearly two decades working at the intersection of aviation and weather intelligence.
His career began at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, where he spent over a decade with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in operational roles — gaining first-hand experience of how weather conditions can make or break airline operations. In his final role at KLM, he also developed decision support tools covering meteorological forecasting and capacity planning, and represented the airline at industry conferences.
After leaving KLM, he founded Adverse Weather Consultancy, advising airports, handlers, and airlines on winter weather operations and de-icing, while collaborating with MeteoGroup on weather-driven decision support tools. Concurrently, he served as Faculty Manager for De-icing at JAA Training Organisation, developing and delivering training programmes for aviation professionals.
In 2018, Arjen moved into the technology and data sector, joining DTN first as Product Owner and Delivery Manager, then as Strategic Product Manager for Aviation. Over nearly five years, he worked at the intersection of weather data and aviation business intelligence — translating customer needs into product strategy, managing product profitability, and bringing weather-driven decision tools to market for airlines, airports, and service providers globally.
At Meteomatics, Arjen draws on this experience to help aviation customers understand and act on the operational value of precise, high-resolution weather data — bringing credibility that comes from having lived these challenges himself.
