Near-Surface Icing Warning for Energy Operators
The new near-surface icing warning gives energy operators an early signal of when conditions favour ice formation, so teams can schedule maintenance and adjust operations before production is affected.
We built the parameter specifically for turbine and infrastructure icing. It uses wet-bulb temperature as its key input, which accounts for both air temperature and humidity and reflects the conditions under which liquid water can freeze on exposed surfaces. This makes the index a closer match to real-world icing risk than air temperature alone.
You can access the warning through icing_warning_<height>:idx, setting <height> to the level you need.
