The Weather Intelligence Company Zooms In On Local Weather Phenomena For Launch Planning
New York, New York (April 2nd, 2026) – Weather intelligence and technology company Meteomatics today announced their work with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), trialing their high-resolution weather model to better forecast the weather conditions that influence integral space launch operations. Conducted at the Wallops Flight Facility, meteorologists will use Meteomatics’ technology to plan launch and other facility operations, as well as ensure safety around the base.
Range Meteorologists at Wallops have begun using Meteomatics’ high-resolution weather model, US1k, as well as its weather forecasting software, MetX. With US1k, NASA now has access to a weather model with a resolution 9x higher than other current leading solutions, enabling a clear, zoomed-in picture of local weather phenomena. Paired with MetX, these precision data insights are gathered on one platform in the form of custom graphics, speeding up the decision process while ensuring teams have the right information at their fingertips—in a decipherable format—even in stressful situations.

Through Meteomatics and NASA’s work together, the companies are improving weather forecast reliability, saving time to decision and launch, and enhancing communications at Wallops Island.
