How Meteomatics Forecasts Wind Power

Wind power forecasting turns high-resolution weather prediction into an expected electricity output for a wind asset. Meteomatics combines high-resolution numerical weather models — including our own EURO1k and US1k — with live plant data and site-specific machine learning to convert forecast wind speed at hub height into turbine- and farm-level generation.

How it works

  • Weather layer. Forecast wind speed, direction and gusts at hub height, downscaled to 90 m.
  • Plant model. Meteorologists train a model on your farm's history and turbine config (rotor diameter, hub height, turbine type).
  • Live refinement. We ingest your plant's real-time data to continuously refine the wind power forecast.
  • Delivery. Updated forecasts delivered every 15 minutes via SFTP in your chosen format.
