Weather Alerts

European National Weather Alerts in MetX

National Weather Alerts are now available in MetX. You can now see official warnings from European organizations directly on the map, helping you react faster to severe weather and improve operational decision-making across all your locations.

UK Flood Alerts in the API and MetX

We’ve added official UK Flood Alerts from the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to both the Weather API and MetX, giving you faster access to critical information during high-impact events.

In the API

Access flood alerts through a dedicated endpoint: get_flood_alerts

The endpoint returns a GeoJSON file with all active alerts, including severity, recommended actions, and detailed affected areas, making it easy to trigger internal workflows or enrich your own dashboards.

Data is updated every 15 minutes so you can rely on timely, high-resolution situational awareness.

In MetX

UK Flood Alerts are also integrated into the National Weather Alerts vector-tile layer for smooth, fast visualization.

This gives teams a clear overview of risk zones at a glance, supporting quicker decisions for field operations, customer communications, and safety planning.

Global Earthquakes in the API and MetX

You can now access global earthquake activity directly in MetX and through a dedicated API endpoint (get_earthquakes). Sourced from the United States Geological Survey & British Geological Survey, the data is unified into a single, consistent format and includes magnitude, depth, time and location for all recent events.

While we don’t forecast earthquakes, quick access to reliable data helps you react fast. Energy companies, for instance, can instantly see whether a seismic event occurred near plants, substations, or pipelines, enabling faster safety checks.

Meteomatics Weather Alerts

Alongside national alerts and earthquake data, we also offer customised weather alerts that trigger the moment your thresholds are exceeded. Choose parameters like wind, temperature, precipitation or lightning, and we’ll deliver alerts to your chosen channel, helping teams react instantly and stay safe without constantly monitoring MetX or the API.

Winter Road Conditions

Now Available in the API and MetX

To support customers who depend on safe mobility and reliable winter operations, we now provide two key datasets: Road Temperature and Road Conditions. Together, they give you precise, operationally useful insights that standard atmospheric forecasts simply can’t provide.

Road Temperature

Our road temperature parameter (t_road) estimates the temperature of the road surface itself, not just the air above it, giving you a much more realistic view of whether surfaces may freeze or overheat.

Road Conditions

The road condition index (road_condition) classifies the actual state of the road surface, from completely dry to freezing rain or black ice, giving you an actionable view of what’s happening on the ground.

The index includes:

  • 7 – Freezing Rain

  • 6 – Ice / Black Ice

  • 5 – Snow

  • 4 – Mixed Rain/Snow / Melting Snow

  • 3 – Hoarfrost / Rime

  • 2 – Wet

  • 1 – Dew

  • 0 – Dry

Simply upload your own GeoJSON files in MetX (for example, your road network or specific strategic routes) to see winter road risks directly on the assets that matter most to your operations.

Location Selection in MetX

Smarter Location Inputs

The location-input workflow has been completely streamlined for better usability.

Copy and paste locations directly from labels or the map, and apply them to all visible tools in a single action. Labels clearly distinguish between names and coordinates, and map search is now integrated into the map label.

A simple right-click lets you copy coordinates or assign them instantly, making location setup faster, more precise, and more consistent across your workspace.

How to copy coordinates:

  1. Right-click on your desired location on the map
  2. Select “Copy coordinates”
  3. Paste wherever you need them
