Isobands

See filled areas showing where a parameter exceeds a specific threshold or falls within a defined range.

This makes it immediately visible where, for example, turbulence risk exceeds an operational limit, or where temperatures drop below a critical threshold.

Isobands are fully customizable: any parameter, any threshold, either as a specific value or a range. The result is a polygon view of the areas that matter, directly supporting planning and decision-making in sectors like aviation, energy, agriculture, and logistics.

MetX allows you to display data as isobands, click on ”Add Layer” in the Layer Stack, and select ”Isobands” as layer mode.

As an example, let’s add relative humidity in the blank parameter search field below the layer mode. Select the parameter and click ”Apply” to add it as Isobands. In the Layer Stack, click on the Isobands layer and the following preferences are shown:

Define isoband thresholds by selecting a type — Values, Ranges, or Intervals — then enter your preferred values. Use Manage Colors to assign fill colors per band, choosing between randomized colors or a monochromatic scale where the first color sets the base for the entire range.

In addition to the preferences in the layer, line color and width, values, range, median and Gaussian filter can be modified. Various values can be specified, i.e. if the user wants to display only isobands of a certain value. Similarly, a user-defined range of isobars can be defined by specifying minimum, maximum and step size, e.g. ”970, 1030, 2”.
